Dr. Douglas was the first Young Labor Representative to sit on the National Executive of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labor Party (which was made in 1935). He was chosen as Deputy Chairman of the Party in 1987. Two years after the fact, in 1989, he ran for open office and was chosen shockingly as a Member of Parliament for St. Christopher #6, serving the groups of Newton Ground, St. Pauls, Dieppe Bay, Parsons, Saddlers and Harris’.[1]

Taking after the island’s general decision of 1989 and his rising to Parliament, Dr. Douglas was delegated Leader of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition. Before long, he was chosen National Leader of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labor Party.[2]

In the 1993 general race hung on 29 November, Douglas effectively headed the Labor Party to win a by and large greater part famous vote yet because of antiquated discretionary limits the close to two thirds lion’s share prevalent vote just secured 4 of the 8 seats in St. Kitts while the staying 3 seats (out of 11 aggregate) on Nevis were taken between two minority parties. The Governor General swore in a Government that just told the backing of 5 out of the 11 seats. Work, which had gained the greater part mainstream vote, with its 4 seats, alongside 2 from Nevis, as the lion’s share chosen situated in Opposition, were completely ignored.[1]
